Team Evaluation

Team Evaluation

Overall, I feel that the whole project could have gone a lot smoother. The main issue that we faced as a group was that we didn’t send our work to each other often enough. Looking back on the project the main fault was that work at the end was rushed simply trying to get things into the level. As it was late on in the project when we had a working level it was largely a case of simply adding in small parts of the brief to cover as much as possible.
I feel one way of improving on the assignment would be to send intricate saves so that we would both know exactly what point each of us was up to and also so that we would know that both of us were getting through the work and that one of us wasn’t slacking in the work.
The main area for the work that I did was the first area. I had planned to do more with it, and include voiceovers and sub titles. However I lost the time as my team mate had issues with the level and that took more time than planned.

Scripting 2 task evaluation

I found the assignment quite tough. I seem to be struggling to get to grips with Unreal compared to other people in the class, which as a result makes me work seem even worse. I wanted to try and get a decent looking abondened city. However, my time management and planning didn't go to well and it meant that my level was simply too big for what I had in it. If I re did this assignment now, I would first check key things that I want in the level and see what size they are and plan around that.

My actual scripting didn't go too well. I eventually managed to get a bot to run to a point and fight another Bot. At this point however I had hoped to be able to add in around 4 bots and have them come from differnet directions. However, when I added them in the main character in the trailer wouldn't target them and would simply shoot a wall. After trying to find the problem for a few hours I was running out of time and simply had to delete them from the project, this meant that there was simply alot of time where nothing was happening. I eventually managed to get another Bot into the level, It however doesn't have a script. Jacob fires at the second AI and then is killed when it fights back.

For my next assignement I am going to be sure to plan the level and storyboard it throughly and make sure I have a firm idea in my head rather than trying to stumble through the level design and scripting. I feel the main issue I had with the project was that the errors I did have I simply didn't cover up well enough and it brought the whole project down as a whole.

First Entry

This will be my university Blog. I hope to update this once I complete work to reflect on the work, looking at what I did well and parts of the projects that I struggled with.
